Primary One, Two and Three

Our Primary School is a very busy part of the school, with children working hard at their reading, writing and number work.  Irish dancing is a huge favourite as is getting out on the yard to play.  We pride ourselves in helping our youngsters to 'be happy' in school whilst learning how to settle in, follow rules, have fun, make friends and learn.  We love our weekly assembly as it is here we get to see the progress students are making in lots of different areas... check out the videos below which show off our singing and dancing skills.  Small steps are big achievements here, and we love to celebrate and promote our students successes.  We work with a 'can do'  attitude and love trying out new tasks and activities.  If you visit us in school, make sure you know some Lamh signs as that is how we communicate.  Enjoy this page...

The focus of the reception class is designed to help the children achieve ‘early learning goals.' Children of this age learn best through practical experience and the curriculum is delivered in this way as much as possible.

Curriculum

This class follows the Revised Primary School Curriculum in conjunction with the NCCA guidelines and the Aistear programme. Crucial elements of this programme are Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Social, Personal and Health Education, Knowledge and Understanding of the world, Physical Development and Creative Development.

In the reception class the children are encouraged to have a positive approach to learning and believe that learning is fun and enjoyable.  We have high expectations of the children and believe in the ‘can do’ approach to learning by always encouraging them to ‘have a go’ and do their best

This year in Primary 3 we have 11 wonderful students ranging in age from 11-14.

We follow the Primary Curriculum with aspects of the JC programme and a particular emphasis on life skills.

In Primary 3 we look at the child and the work is based on their interests and abilities.

We take a thematic approach to learning where subjects are integrated through a particular theme, eg fire, Ireland, under the sea.

The learning is hands on and active and we use a lot of concrete materials and a variety of teaching methodologies.

We love to have fun while learning!
